Austin Chiropractor

Austin Spine & Rehabilitation (formerly McKinley Chiropractic Health Center) has been serving Austin since 1999 and would like to share some details about ourselves.

Dr. McKinley (Don) was raised in a military family and graduated from High School at Randoph Air Force Base in San Antonio. In 1982 he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Texas State University. Upon graduation, he worked at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston in the area of research for the Infectious Disease Department.

He then moved to explore the business world, but found out that his passion and gifting laid in the health field. After he and his family experienced healing and health prevention awareness through Chiropractic care, Don decided that this was the route he was destined to pursue. While attending Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas, he traveled seven times to Washington D.C. to lobby on behalf of the profession and worked on current Chiropractic legislation. He participated in health promotions for the TCC clinic and served as a full-time Chiropractic teaching assistant.

Don graduated Cum Laude from Texas Chiropractic College in 1995 and received the Keeler Plaque Award for most outstanding student. Upon graduation, he moved his family to Austin where he began as an associate Doctor of Chiropractic where he focused on Chiropractic rehabilitation. In 1999, Dr. McKinley became an independent Doctor of Chiropractic and opened his own clinic in South Austin. He has since continued further education to enhance his practice, including rehabilitation and nutrition.

Austin Chiropractor

Steven Descant was born and raised in the Houston/Friendswood area. Participation in athletics (football, soccer, basketball, track and field) during Junior & High School resulted in severe lower back pain, for which his parents sought care from many sport and rehabilitation specialists in the Houston area. This provided temporary relief, only to have the pain return with increased severity upon the resumption of activities. He was then referred for Chiropractic care with a treatment plan that resolved his pain and allowed him to resume sports activities. At that time, Dr. Descant began to view Chiropractic as a favorable career path.

Dr. Descant’s undergraduate studies were at the University of Houston; followed by Texas Chiropractic College, from which he received his Doctor of Chiropractic and Bachelor’s Degree in Human Biology in 1995. After practicing in the Houston area and being an adjunct professor at Texas Chiropractic College, he moved to San Antonio in 1998 to continue his private practice.

In 2006 he was transferred by the clinic group for which he was working to Laredo, Texas where he practiced for 7 years. In 2013, he was able to move to Austin to join Premier Family Physicians, thanks to his classmate from Texas Chiropractic College, Dr. McKinley. At the start of 2022, Dr. Descant moved his practice to McKinley Chiropractic.

Dr. Descant and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for over 20 years and have two children. In his free time, Dr. Descant likes to follow sports and spend time with his family exploring Central Texas.
